Zip your lips Anwar, says PKR’s 26

PUCHONG: A total of 26 PKR leaders – 22 senior leaders and four MPs – have called upon their party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to stop issuing statements that would split the party in an obvious reference to the widening gap between Anwar and his deputy, Datuk Seri Azmin Ali who is also Economic Affairs Minister. It also signs the worsening internal turmoil within PKR.

In a joint statement released this morning, they said that Anwar needs to immediately work on uniting the party for the sake of PKR, Pakatan Harapan and the nation. They have also stated their support for Azmin who is embroiled in a gay sex video scandal. Azmin has denied the allegations.

“We would like to stress that PKR must stand strong and consistently oppose dirty politics that is utilised to bring down the deputy president. We are with Azin and other leaders who are being attacked with immoral methods such as these,” they said.

The top three leaders in of the 26 are PKR vice presidents Zuraida Kamaruddin who is also Housing and Local Government Minister, Tian Chua who is an advisor to Works Minister and Saratok MP Ali Biju. There are 19 PKR central leadership council members and four other MPs – Steven Choong (Tebrau), Maria Chin Abdullah (Petaling), Jonathan Yasin (Ranau) and Willy Mongin (Puncak Borneo).

Yesterday Anwar called for Azmin’s resignation from the cabinet in the event the gay sex video was proven to be authentic. Azmin retorted by telling Anwar to self reflect the matter.

The group of 26 stated that Anwar’s view was baseless as it was done in a speculative manner.

“President should provide a clear leadership on the question of eradicating bad political ploys that is meant to bring about Azmin’s down fall.”

They said that Anwar should focus on the ploy that systematically viralled the sex video which is a disgusting act done maliciously.

“We are surprised that when the video was viralled, Anwar had issued a different view by stating that Azmin need not resign.

“Based on Azmin’s denial, the president should defend his deputy for the sake of unity within PKR instead of going after the deputy’s position in the government without a strong basis.
