Perak exco rape case: Police waiting for medical, forensic reports

IPOH: The results of medical and forensic examinations on an Indonesian maid who had accused Perak state executive councillor Paul Yong of rape will only be known in two weeks.

Speaking to reporters at the Perak police headquarters, state police chief Datuk Razarudin Husain also said that investigation papers have been sent to the public prosecutor’s office for review but the team is still waiting for the medical and forensic reports.

“We still have to follow up on two things, the medical reports from the doctor and also the forensic report.

“We still are still waiting for the two reports. It will take about two or three weeks to get the result,” he said.

On July 8, an Indonesian maid lodged a police report alleging that Yong has raped her in his house in Meru.

Following the report, Yong had surrendered himself to the police to assist in the investigation and maintained that he was innocent of the charges levelled against him.

He was later released on bail.

On calls for Yong to be rearrested, Razarudin said the police may not do so for the time being.

“Our stand is that when we investigate a case that requires us to arrest, we will only do it if the suspect has the tendency to disturb the investigation or the victim, or a flight risk.

“If we think there is no other investigation to do, we don’t have to arrest anyone. Also, by law, bailable cases should be given bail. So, if our investigation is complete, then we will give bail,” he said.

The state police chief added that Yong was lawfully released on bail and not because of any biasness or the latter’s position as a state executive councillor.

Razarudin also assured that the Indonesia maid is now placed in a ‘safe house’ in Malaysia under the care of the Indonesian embassy.

He added that the Indonesian envoy has promised that the accuser will not return to Indonesia until the Malaysian authorities decide on their next course of action.

“The maid will be here until the case ends,” Razaruddin said.
