Perak exco: I did not rape my domestic worker

PUCHONG: Perak state executive councillor Paul Yong dismissed allegation that he had raped his former domestic worker.

In a statement today, Yong said he was disturbed accusations and maintained that he was innocent.

“I am totally shocked and baffled by the unfounded allegation. I unequivocally and categorically deny the allegation.

“I reiterate that I have never raped or sexually assaulted her,” he said, adding that he had cooperated with the police and provided witnesses to support his case.

On Monday, the domestic helper had lodged a police report at the Jelapang police station claiming Yong had sexually assaulted her.

The DAP lawmaker had voluntarily approached the police last night. He was held under custody till this morning.

On related matter, Perak police chief Datuk Razarudin Husain said the police had recorded statements from the 23-year-old victim, who alleged that the rape took place at Yong’s residence in Meru, Ipoh.

The police have also questioned Yong’s family on the allegation.

Razarudin added that the victim has been sent for medical examination and is currently placed in a safe location until the investigations are over.

The case has been classified under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

Following the expose, the annual swearing-in ceremony for state exco members scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed indefinitely.

Yong, 49, is a second-term Tronoh state assemblyperson and first-term exco member. He is also the Perak DAP treasurer.

He is in charge of public transport, non-Muslim affairs, new villages, housing and local government in the Perak state government.
