Number of Rantau flood victims down to 33 people

SEREMBAN: The number of flash flood victims in Rantau, about 20 km from here, has gone down to 33 people from 11 families today at 8 am compared to 50 victims from 15 families, yesterday.

Seremban District Disaster Management Secretariat, in a statement here, said the remaining victims from three villages, namely, Kampung Sega Hilir, Kampung Pasir and Kampung Siliau, were still at the Temporary Relief Centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sega Hilir.

“The rest of the victims have gone to stay with their relatives yesterday.

‘’As of 7 am today, the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) had patrolled the villages. They checked all the homes inundated by the flood and found the situation was good, under control and the water had receded completely,’’ said the statement.

The victims at the PPS were not allowed to return home due to uncertainty about the weather in the evening and fearing a recurrence of the flash flood.

Yesterday, 50 victims were evacuated to the SK Sega Hilir PPS after their houses were inundated by flood water up to 1.21 metres high after Sungai Linggi broke its banks due to heavy rain.
