Kedah: 86 houses, five shop premises damaged due to heavy rain
ALOR SETAR: A total of 86 houses and five shop premises in eight districts of the state suffered heavy damage due to heavy rains followed by strong winds that occurred around 4pm here, yesterday.
State Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Halimaton Saadiah Saad said, the districts involved were Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, Langkawi, Yan, Pendang, Pokok Sena, Sik and Baling.
“The Kota Setar district saw the highest number of houses affected, followed by Sik with 10 houses and five shops, Yan and Kubang Pasu each of nine houses, Pendang (4), Langkawi (2) and Pokok Sena and Baling respectively, one house.
“As of 11am, the total number of homes affected was 86 and five shop premises. No injuries or fatalities were reported and no evacuation centres were opened,” he said in a statement here today.
Halimaton Saadiah said appropriate assistance to the victims would also be provided through the service centers in their respective areas.
