Zahid defends Tajuddin’s offensive remark on Hindu holy ash

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today defended Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman over the latter’s offensive remarks on holy ash worn by Hindus in the Dewan Rakyat.
News portal Free Malaysia Today reported that the Bagan Datoh MP said that Tajuddin had apologised and retracted his comments after uttering it.
“He did not wish to insult any religion but was only saying not to venerate Chin Peng’s ashes,” he said,in his speech at the party general assembly today.
Tajuddin was suspended from Dewan Rakyat after repeatedly asking if Jelutong MP RSN Rayer forehead was smeared with Chin Peng’s ashes.
The motion to refer him to the rights and privileges committee was passed in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
