Umno MP brings up ash issue again! Calls DAP ‘communist lovers’

PUCHONG: Chaos erupted in the Dewan Rakyat today when Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (BN-Arau) urged RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) to retract his statement alleging that Barisan Nasional did not respect the Hindu community.

Rayer made the remark after Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (BN_Pasir Salak) poked fun on the holy ash smeared on Rayer’s forehead yesterday, asking whether the ash belonged to the dead communist leader, Chin Peng.

Tajuddin’s remarks earned him the boot from Dewan Rakyat yesterday and a suspension.

Undeterred by Shahidan, Rayer told off the Umno MP, saying he would not retract his statement against BN as Tajuddin had insulted the Hindu religion.

A war of words then erupted between Shahidan and Rayer before Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof hit the brakes on the duo.

A composed Ariff urged Shahidan to calm down and told the former menteri besar to not raise the matter anymore as it was settled yesterday itself.

“There is no need to raise matters of the past as it will lead us to dwell on petty issues,” he said.

However, Shahidan was not impressed by the Speaker’s advise and shouted that Ariff’s decision would only embolden people to make irresponsible statements and get away with it.

“If that is the case, I will say something too. DAP supports communists!” he shouted on his microphone, before it was muted by Ariff.

Miffed by Shahidan’s statement, Wong Hon Wai (PH-Bukit Bendera) stood up and urged Shahidan to retract his remarks, which the Umno MP disregarded.

He even told off Ariff, saying that he is walking out from the Dewan Rakyat session.

Unperturbed, Ariff shot back saying,” Go ahead. I remind you not to make such remarks again or else, I will exercise my powers as a Speaker against you.”

After a small commotion, the session resumed.
