Thaipusam: Cleanliness is next to godliness, says campaign team
PUCHONG: Amidst the hustle and bustle of the Thaipusam celebrations, a group of volunteers are busy making sure that there are enough volunteers to keep the place of worship clean and tidy.
So far, seven hundred volunteers have registered themselves for the “Clean Thaipusam” campaign.
The campaign is aimed at clearing the waste disposed by hundreds of thousands of devotees and visitors who will be visiting Batu Caves, Ipoh Kallumalai Murugan Temple and the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple.

The team will be led by Sathiyavarmaan and JK Wicky, a film maker who had previously directed a public service announcement video aimed at spreading awareness about littering during Thaipusam.
Speaking to The Leaders Online, Sathiyavarmaan Thirunavukkarasu confirmed that they received overwhelming response from the public for the clean up initiative.
“So far five hundred people have volunteered with us and came forward to clean up Batu Caves, ” he said.
“Every year, we attend Thaipusam and instead of complaining about the thrash, we are taking a positive approach and taking proactive measure to clean it up,” he told The Leaders Online.
Clean Thaipusam campaign is powered by Digi and they will be giving away 500 plants for free. Apart from the cleaning activity, they are also collecting shaven hair, usually done by devotees to repay a vow, to create wigs for cancer patients.

Clean Thaipusam campaign official launch will take place at 4pm on Feb 7, at Batu Caves Digi booth.
