Thailand: various drugs worth RM127.72 million seized by NSB
BANGKOK: Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) seized various drugs including ‘ice’, ganja and Yaba pills worth approximately 932 million baht (RM127.72 million) and arrested 14 suspects including two women in four separate operations.
Chief of NSB Chinnapat Sarasin said a total of 528 kilogramme (kg) of ‘ice’, 8.4 million Yaba pills and 75 kg of ganja were seized in the operations.
“Based on the packaging, we believed (that) the drugs are for exporting. The authority will intensify efforts to fight drug-smuggling activities,” he said at a press conference here on Thursday.
On Dec 23 at 12.40 am (local time), Chief of the Narcotics Suppression Division 2, Pol Maj Gen Watcharin Boonkong, said two local men aged 39 and 43 were arrested with 525 kilogramme of ‘ice’ and 6 million Yaba pills worth 800 million baht in a pickup truck at Hua Ta-Le Village at Chaiyapphum Province in northeast Thailand.
Following tip-offs, he said the authority stopped the pickup truck and upon inspection, the officials found the drugs packed in Chinese tea packets hidden in several fertilizer sacks.
“Initial investigations found that the drug syndicate smuggles ‘ice’ and Yaba pills from the Laos-Thailand border to Thailand before exporting it to another country.
“The suspects said they were hired with 10,000 baht (payment) to transport the drugs. We are hunting the mastermind,” he said.
On Dec 25, NSB also seized 75 kg of ganja and 3 kg of ‘ice’, and arrested two local men. The first suspect was arrested at Nahorn Nayok Province and the second suspect was arrested at Prathum Thani Province in the central region.
On Dec 23, four individuals, including two women, were arrested in Northern Thailand for smuggling 2 million Yaba pills.
Meanwhile, NSB also seized 400,000 Yaba pills at Nakorn Sawan Province and arrested six suspects aged between 19 and 23 years old on Dec 17.
