Sabah Health Dept takes steps to prevent polio outbreak

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Health Department has taken preventive steps to stop the polio disease from spreading in the state.

Its Health and Wellbeing minister Datuk Poon Ming Fung said until Dec 5, 646 individual has been tested negative with acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) in the area where the first polio case infection happened.

“Investigation is still ongoing to identify the cause of the first infection, including taking stool samples from people who have been in contact with the baby boy.

“Samples from the surrounding area have also been taken to detect the virus,” he said.

Health Ministry, two days ago, confirmed that a three months old baby boy in Tuaran, Sabah has been infected with the disease.

It was the first polio case detected in the country after 27 years.
