Police, Education Ministry to investigate video of Negaraku sung in Mandarin
KUALA LUMPUR: The police are investigating a viral video featuring students at a Chinese vernacular school singing the national anthem in Mandarin.
Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director, Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the police have received information about the video and probing the matter.
“The video is an old one but we will investigate it,’’ he said.
The video, which runs for one minute and 23 seconds, shows students singing the ‘NegaraKu’ in Mandarin. The video was alleged to have been recorded in Sept 26, 2018 at a school in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.
Touching on the matter, the Education Ministry also said that they would investigate the matter as well.
In a statement, the ministry said it would not compromise with anyone who tried to undermine the Federal Constitution, either deliberately or otherwise.
“The ministry is aware of the video showing pupils singing Negaraku in a different language instead of Bahasa Malaysia, which has gone viral on social media.
“We are investigating the matter thoroughly,” the statement reads.
