Perak exco arrested over rape allegation

IPOH: The police have arrested a Perak state executive councillor yesterday over an allegation that he had sexually assaulted his domestic worker.

Perak police chief Datuk Razarudin Husain confirmed the arrest this morning.

“To conduct a fair probe, we arrested the suspect yesterday to assist in our investigation,” he said in a statement.

On Monday, the domestic helper had lodged a police report at the Jelapang police station claiming her employer had sexually assaulted her.

The Perak exco member, however, denied the allegation and described it as slander.

He also pledged to cooperate with the police on the matter.

Coincidentally, the Perak Palace has postponed the annual swearing-in ceremony for the state executive councillors scheduled for tomorrow. No reason was given for the decision.

It in unclear whether the decision by the Perak Palace was linked to the rape allegation.
