Parody questions ‘praising’ Zakir Naik goes viral on FB

PUCHONG: While people were upset with the recent controversy surrounding Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMap) examination paper which heaped laurels Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik, a parody set of questions was found going viral on Facebook.

The parody questions, posted by one named Suresh Yegambaram on Dec 31, seemed to poke fun at Zakir and also UniMAP’s question paper.

Other than calling Zakir as an ‘icon of the Muslim world’, the parody questions referred to Zakir as an Indian fugitive, associated with fraudulent activities.

Question 3 reads: ” Why do people tend to believe that Zakir Naik has attracted millions of people to embrace Islam?”

And the options given were:

(1) Because they account for more than 200 million Indians who had already practiced Islam long before Zakir was born.

(2) Because they believe the rumours spread by Zakir and his organisation

(3) A and B.

Question 4 reads: “What should Zakir do to clear his name as he was accused of inciting violence and money laundering?”

The options given were:

(1) Go back to India

(2) Go back to Indianapolis

(3) Go back to Indiana Jones.

Recently, UniMAP under its Ethnic Relations exam paper dated Dec 29, had pointed out that Zakir was a prominent figure in the Islamic world and had alluded that those opposed to him were either ignorant or refuse to accept the truth.

The exam paper also had several other controversial questions, referring to Malaysian Indians as ‘dark-skinned people’ and those opposed the introduction of Jawi in schools as showing off their new found power.

Zakir, who is wanted in India on money laundering charges, was barred from giving talks in Malaysia after he offended the Chinese and the Indians in a talk in Kelantan.

He was reported to have said that Malaysian Indians were more loyal to Indian prime minister Narendra Modi compared to Malaysian premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He also said that his critics who want him to leave Malaysia should first ask the “old guest”, the Chinese community to leave first.
