MSMW 2019: Digital approaches to boost businesses

PUCHONG: Businesses and industries today need to use the social media today to reach out to the masses instead of using the traditional media. Social media here refers to the likes of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and even LinkedIn to a certain extent.

How do you gain insights into all of the above? Fret not. All you need to do is attend the Malaysian Social Media Week that is held from tomorrow until Friday.

The event will be held in Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).

How does your content promote your brand? It is vital to have an effective marketing content. How does data analytics come into play in aiding your brand?

These are some questions that will be addressed by three professionals – Shahid Shayaa of Berkshire Media, author of ‘Digital Marketing Tactics for Decision Makers’ Dr Frank Peter and Andrew Kanan of Lat Sense Sdn Bhd.

One aspect that would boost your brand are social media influencers. How to earn, increase and manage influence on your brand? This would be addressed by Malini Agarwal of MissMalini Media, Dr. A.J Minai of Subture Creative Agency and Khushboo Nangalia of BEYOND99.


The question of budget for marketing will be addressed by Marcus Teoh, Nick Tan and Amnah Shaari.

Teoh is the founder of Marcus Teoh Global. Tan is the founder of Anonymous Production and 360 VR Asia. Amnah is the founder of Global Halal Data Pool and Verify Halal mobile apps.

The most important aspect for any business outfit is return of investment from the social media campaigns. What can be seen on the social media platform is the number of likes and followers. How can this be translated into income and profits?

Three panellists will be addressing these questions and more. The trio are Kiruba Shankar, Roberto Cumaraswamy and Faeez Fadhillah. Kiruba is CEO of Business Blogging & Founder Director of F5ive Technologies.

Roberto is chief marketing officer on demand. He was named as one of the Top 43 Inspirational LinkedIn Icons in Malaysia. Faeez Fadhillah is CEO and co-founder of Tripfez & Salam Standard, an innovative, state of the art travel portal dedicated to the rise of global Muslim travelers.


How does one provide a unified customer experience with targeted content based on customer demographics. How and what measures can be taken to further complement the content without confusing customers?

This would be addressed by the founder of Sedania Innovator Bhd, Datuk Azrin Mohd Noor. Other panellists include Dammika Ganegama, the co-founder of Mitra Digital and Christopher Tock, the founder and CEO of SocialGrooves.com and advisor to ADAPT Ventures.

The usage of social media to reach customers would provide consumer data. How does a brand gain extra value from this data? This would be addressed by Nowrid Amin and several others. Nowrid is a digital marketing strategist with IQI Global.

A brand would be remembered with a story? How do you tell the story of your brand? Steven Lim the executive producer of BuzzFeed, Jinny Boy TV founder Jinny Boy and Joel Neoh the founder of mobile payment Fave would be addressing this question.

The above issues will be discussed in detail on Wednesday and Thursday.
MSMW awards based on the industry players’s social media engagements in promoting their products and services. The awards will be given on Thursday.

On the last day there would be two workshops. The first is dealt by Kiruba Shankar on generating sales via social media. The second workshop would teach participants about video marketing. This would be handled by film maker Saleem Hadi of Blacspice Media.

Several top politicians with strong social media presence too will be addressing participants. Among them are PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and deputy youth and sports minister Steven Sim Chee Keong.
