MB saga: Sultan kept my quit letter as souvenir, says Osman Sapian

JOHOR BARU: Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar has opted to maintain the suspence over the question of who is the Johor Menteri Besar as his highness by keeping the quit letter from embattled state chief Datuk Osman Sapian as a souvenir.

“I submitted my resignation letter to the sultan. Tuanku did not even look at it and considers the letter as a souvenir,” Osman told a press conference at the Johor Bersatu headquarters here.

“My position remains until a decision is made by Tuanku on the matter later today

Osman also revealed that the state ruler wants a reshuffle in the state exco line-up.

“The sultan also set a condition for the incoming menteri besar, which is to revamp the state executive council,” he said, reported Malay daily, Berita Harian.

He also revealed that he was summoned to meet the sultan at 6 pm today.

Osman sought an audience with the ruler this morning.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced Osman’s resignation as the state chief.

This subsequently led to tiff between Johor palace and Putrajaya over the question of who has the right to appoint the new Menteri Besar.
