‘Manifesto, manifesto’ defence for new Seda chair

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang defended the appointment of Public Accounts Committee deputy chairman Wong Kah Woh as Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) on the basis that it did not violate the Pakatan Harapan manifesto.

“We follow the manifesto. We keep to the manifesto, just check the manifesto,” Lim said when pressed on whether he agreed with the appointment of Wong to Seda.

Lim who is also reforms and governance parliamentary caucus deputy chief said as he left Malaysian Economy Symposium: Present and the Future’ that was held at the Parliament building today.

In its manifesto, Pakatan Harapan pledged to ensure appoinments of board members at the federal and state government linked companies would based on merit and professionalism, not politics. The election manifesto is silent on the appointment of politicians to government institutions.

Caucus chief and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim too echoed Lim’s sentiments.

“Seda is not a government-linked company. It’s a statutory body. It is not a business entity as such,” Anwar said.

Wong had taken up the position on 1 July.

His appointment did not go down well with MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong who said that the appointment reeked with conflict of interest.
