Malaria outbreak: No need to worry, says Dzulkefly

PUTRAJAYA: There is no need to worry about the malaria outbreak affecting the Orang Asli people from Pos Lenjang in Kuala Lipis, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad.
Speaking to reporters, he said that the Orang Asli people contracted the Plasmodium vivax malaria, which is a mild and not life-threatening type.
“We have just been alerted about it and the ministry’s director general will issue a statement later,” said Dzulkefly.
Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that 10 Orang Asli in Pos Lenjang have contracted the plasmodium vivax malaria. Nine of them are warded in hospital.
This is the second time the Orang Asli community are facing a health crisis.
In April, the Batek tribe in Kampung Kuala Koh, Gua Musang in Kelantan lost 13 people due to measles, according to the Health Ministry.
However, NGOs and activists are sceptical over the ministry’s official response. Post-mortem reports of those who died in Kelantan have yet to be made public.
