Five people on their way to wedding feast struck by tragedy
PUCHONG: Five people were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry at Km427.5 of the south-bound side of the Plus Highway between Bukit Tagar and Bukit Beruntung, near here, early today.
In the 4am incident, Perodua Myvi driver Mohamad Rodzi Abdul Kadir, 52, and four other passengers were Jamilah Jalim @Jamil, 47, Bashirah Jalim @ Jamil, 49, Nur Intan Mohamad Rodzi, 18, and Nur Shifa Abdul Rashid , 17, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hulu Selangor Police Chief Superintendent Azman Ab Rahman said the family was believed to be traveling from Kedah to Shah Alam to attend the wedding.
“It is understood that the five-person train from Kedah to Shah Alam collided with two other vehicles. At the time of the incident, an accident involving a truck overturned at a distance of about 3.5 kilometers from the scene.
“The overturned truck accident caused slow traffic to the site. It is understood that two vehicles that collided with the Myvi car had crossed the road.
“While the car was being driven by five victims in the left lane, it collided with the back of a lorry carrying slow-moving fruit,” he said when met at the Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital Forensic Medical Unit here today.
Azman said the deceased were five relatives of military retirees, Mohamad Rodzi and his wife, Jamilah with his son, Nur Intan. “The other two victims are the sister-in-law of Mohamad Rodzi, Bashirah and his son Nur Shifa.
“It is understood that the burial of the five victims will be carried out by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) including bringing the body back to Yan, Kedah, for burial,” he said.
He said the true cause of the accident is still under investigation under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations Selangor Hafisham Mohd Noor said the department received an emergency call about 4.40am today.
“A total of 11 officers and members with one engine from the Bukit Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, we encountered an accident involving a Perodua Myvi car and a lorry. The driver and front passenger were trapped in their seats before being evacuated minutes later, ”he said in a statement, here, today.
He said three unidentified rear passengers were also released by the fire.
“All the victims who died at the scene have been handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
