Fire in Kg Sembulan Baru leaves 93 homeless
KOTA KINABALU: A total of 93 victims have been temporarily housed at the Sembulan hall after their rented units in Kampung Sembulan Baru were destroyed in a fire at 11.32 pm last night.
According to a statement issued by the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre, the victims comprised 49 adults, nine senior citizens as well as 35 children and the fire also destroyed four motorcycles.
“The Kota Kinabalu fire station (BPP) deployed four engines to Kampung Sembulan Baru, located about one kilometre away and the firefighting efforts were also assisted by BPP Lintas and BBP Penampang, involving 35 firefighters,” it said.
They managed to put out the fire completely at 1.20 am and no fatalities or injuries reported, while the cause and the estimated losses were still under investigation.
