Ezam to MACC: Stop your Najib drama and give the evidence to AGC, courts

PUCHONG: Stop all this drama and focus on your enforcement duties, the National Anti-Corruption Movement chairman Datuk Mohamad Ezam Mohd Noor tells the MACC.

In a statement yesterday, Ezam lashed out at MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya for exposing audio clips, purportedly linking former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to corrupt acts to conceal his involvement in the 1MDB scandal.

“What is your game plan here, MACC? Was it necessary to expose these evidences to the public?

“If there is a crime committed, shouldn’t you submit these things to court or the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) for further action?” he asked.

Yesterday, Latheefa told the media that the MACC received seven authentic audio clips linking Najib and several other government officials in the 1MDB scandal.

One of the audio clips revealed the influence Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor had on Najib, who had urged the latter to take charge and resolve the 1MDB fiasco.

Another audio clip featured Najib attempting to seek help from a royalty in United Arab Emirates, to save his stepson Riza Aziz from the long arms of the US Justice Department.

Ezam, who was a former Umno senator, said that since Pakatan Harapan took federal power, the law enforcement agencies seem to engage ‘a lot of drama’ and have become ‘story-tellers’ for the government of the day.

“Even earlier this week, the police came up with several statements in regards to an allegation that a minister was involved in unnatural sex.

“Why all these charades? Just investigate and take you case to the AGC and courts. Be professional in your conduct,” he said.

Ezam then took potshots at Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, alleging that the latter may have a hand on why the law enforcement agencies were behaving this way.

“Mahathir, from his earlier premiership days, has this tendency of abusing the powers of the police and MACC for his political agenda. I can see that he is back to his old self now after the humiliation he suffered at the Tanjung Piai by-election.

“Please stop using the government apparatus to launch your weekly drama. All criminal cases must be investigated professionally. That is the foundation of a just and democratic government,” he said.
