Ezam to Guan Eng: Power transition date vital, it affects our economy!
PUCHONG: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng needs to get his brain checked for saying it was not important for Pakatan Harapan to set an official date for the power transition plan.
In a statement, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Movement chairman Datuk Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor said that Lim should realise that investors’ are looking forward towards the power transition plan before making a business decision on Malaysia.
“Many reports, domestic and foreign, have indicated foreign investors are waiting for the power transition to happen before deciding on their next move. Investors’ confidence plays a key role in determining Malaysia’s economic condition.
“As our Finance Minister, Lim should know all these things. The minister’s reply is very frustrating and worrying. He should be sensitive enough to know that our economy is not doing well and it is affecting all of us,” he said.
Yesterday, Lim dismissed the need for Pakatan presidential council meeting to discuss the power transition between Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at this juncture.
Lim said that as Mahathir had indicated that he would quit after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit, there was no need to pressure the nonagenarian for now.
Earlier, Mahathir had announced that he would quit the premiership if the coalition leaders told him to do so.
Apec is scheduled for Nov, which is beyond the May deadline given by several PKR and DAP leaders.
Ezam, who is a former Umno senator, said that Pakatan leaders seem to have not learnt their lesson despite getting a massive drubbing in the Tanjung Piai by-election last year.
He added that while Lim may think that Nov is still a long way to go, ordinary Malaysians are struggling on a daily basis to put food on their tables.
“So, I urge our leaders to put the people’s interest above their petty selfishness. Stop playing politics with our economy and the people’s suffering.
“Let me make it clear to you that this not about who is greater; Mahathir or Anwar. This is about the prime minister’s post, an important job that will determine the nation’s direction for the future,” said Ezam.
