Edward Gostaning Project postponed to June 5
KOTA KINABALU: The Edward Gostaning Project (Summit Kinabalu Jasamu Dikenang), where Edward Taning, 58, attempting to scale and descend the Mount Kinabalu backwards, has been postponed to June 5.
Project coordinator Richard Soibi said the postponement of the project, initially scheduled to commence tomorrow, was due to several unavoidable circumstances.
“The main reason is the delay in obtaining the approval of the Sabah Police Commissioner after the application was submitted on Jan 16.
“The permit was only approved on Friday (March 6), but it is too short for us to address other matters including raising funds.
“Without the permit, we would not be able to collect any funds. The tax exemption application process from the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) is also delayed because the relevant process requires a permit from the police,” he said in a statement here today.
“The programme, jointly organised by the Persatuan Malim Gunung Kinabalu, aimed at raising more than RM500,000, to finance, among others, the construction of a hall in Sekolah Kebangsaan Bundu Tuhan, Ranau; to purchase a bus for the community based rehabilitation (PDK) centre for the disabled in Ranau which is still lacking in facilities and to purchase equipment for the malim (mountain guide) hostel at Mount Kinabalu,” he said.
