Anwar: I have the majority support, not Azmin

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has claimed that he has the majority support among PKR MPs instead of his deputy, Datuk Seri Azmin Ali who is also Economic Affairs Ministers.

His claim comes in response to the statement signed by 26 top PKR leaders earlier today.

He also claimed to have the support of Pakatan Harapan and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to be the eighth prime minister.

“So what is the issue?” he told reporters this morning when asked if his call for Azmin to resign if a sex video implicating the latter proved to be authentic is related to the tussle over the prime minister’s post.

“Let me say this… MPs are with me. Harapan has made a categorical stand that there is no change (on who becomes the next premier). The PM and I have weekly meetings.

“… I have the numbers, I have the support of Harapan and the PM. So it is not fair to me or Azmin to indicate otherwise,” he added.

Anwar also denied that he is eyeing for Azmin’s cabinet position.

PKR has a total of 50 MPs. Of this number, 14 MPs signed a letter earlier today indicating their support for Azmin.

Speculation has been rife that Mahathir and certain powerful personalities aligned to him preferred Azmin, who is also economic affairs minister, to inherit the reins.
