Ahead of National Day, Anwar urges Malaysians to protect the nation and stay united
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the people to safeguard the country to the best of their ability and uphold unity as the pillar of Malaysia’s strength.
He said independence meant being free to determine one’s own destiny and having confidence in the strength of a dignified people and a sovereign nation.
“Uphold unity among Malaysians of various races as the pillar of our strength, and fill our independence with courage, confidence and a truly free spirit,” he said in a post on X today.
According to him, everything the people have achieved today came through the sacrifices of previous generations and was not attained easily.
“Everything we have achieved today came through the sweat, blood and tears of previous generations. Therefore, safeguard this country to the best of your ability,” he said.
In a video message also uploaded, Anwar said the Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan, Murut, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu communities represented the strength of Malaysians.
He stressed that Malaysia’s interests must take precedence over ethnic and regional sentiments, while the country must be known as a nation that guarantees justice for all its people.
“Malaysia must be known for guaranteeing justice for all its people, including those who are marginalised and sidelined,” he said.
Anwar also urged the people to continue working as one team, preserve unity, boost their spirit and defend the country with all their might.
“This country gained independence through the collective strength of all Malaysians. Merdeka!” he said.
Malaysia will celebrate its 69th National Day tomorrow with the theme “Malaysia Madani: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”.
