Employees forced and threatened by employers to work lodged report
PUCHONG: A group of workers are not satisfied with the actions of employers who forced and threatened them to remain at work even during the Movement Control Order, lodged a police report.
Mat, 23, one of the workers from a glass factory at Lipat Kajang, Jasin, said the plant management would cut wages if workers refused to come to work as usual.
“We do not want to risk the current COVID-19 outbreaks, besides obeying the government’s instructions not to go to work during the duration of the Movement Control Command.
He and 31 of his colleagues lodged a police report at the Jasin Police Station, here yesterday.
“I made this police report because I did not want to work and hoped the authorities take action against the factory management that threatened us,” he said.
Meanwhile, the UMNO youth chief, Dr Akmal Salleh wants the authorities to investigate the workers’ allegations.
According to him, the factory management’s instructions were against the law.
“I request that the authorities take firm action against the management as such irresponsible actions not only affect them but the whole community,” he said.
