Speaking to The Leaders Online, Ibtisam Ishak, 18, said that she was the only student who got 10 A’s in her school.

“I want continue my studies in clinical psychology. I haven’t applied for matriculation or a polytechnic yet but will be doing it later,” she happily said.

Talking about her family, Ibtisam said that her father, Ishak Ahmad, works as an accountant.

“My mother, Fairuz Nazri Abd Rahman, is a psychiatrist,” she said.

Another student, Tay Pen Pen, 18, managed to get 9A’s and 1B. Raised solely by her mother, Lai Chin Kam, who works as a hairstylist, the teenager said that she wanted to continue with Form 6.

“I will do Form 6 first as I don’t want to spend money doing foundation courses. If I finish my Form 6, I can straight away opt for a degree course.

“That is another reason why I refuse to apply for matriculation or courses in polytechnics,” she said.

When asked about her ambitions, Tay said, “I want to pursue a career in the medical field.”

M Savitha, 18, got 8 A’s and 1E. There are three of them got 8A’s and she is one of them.

“I will be continuing my studies in accountancy. I haven’t plan on where to continue my studies but I did apply for matriculation,” she said.

Speaking to The Leaders Online team, the school principal, Abdul Rahim Khalid said that while he was happy with his students’ results, he admitted that the overall performance of his school had dropped.

“This is my first year of being the principal of this school. In 2018, the percentage of SPM passes were at 85.25%.

“But last year, it dropped to 79.29%. This brings our school grade point average (GPS) to increase from 4.9% to 5.12%,” he said.

He added that 281 students registered to take SPM examination last year but one gave it a miss.

“From the 280 students, 222 of them are eligible to get the certificate and the balance 58 could not get them because they failed either Bahasa Melayu or Sejarah,” said Rahim.

He added that the percentage of passes for Bahasa Melayu paper soared from 89.84% recorded in 2018 to 90.6% last year.

“However, our passing rate for Sejarah has dropped from 85.86% in 2018 to 79.2% last year,” said Rahim.
