2,500 veterans at 21st Asia Master Athletics Championship

KUCHING: A total of 2,500 athletes, aged 35 and above, from 29 countries are taking part in the 21st Asia Master Athletics Championship (AMAC) 2019 here.

Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the athletes are a great inspiration for the people to lead a healthy lifestyle.

“There are many former Olympians, Asian, Commonwealth and SEA Games athletes participating in the championships.

“A championship like this paves a good platform for all the athletes especially the master athletes to come together, to interact and to strengthen the solidarity among themselves,” he said in his speech at the opening ceremony of 21st AMAC here Monday.

The foreign athletes include those from Singapore, India, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

AMAC 2019, which runs from Monday until Dec 6, features 1,000 events in various age categories.
