Yeo to take legal action after family accused of Pasir Gudang pollution
PUCHONG: Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin has vowed to take legal action against those circulating an image on social media, alluding that her family may be responsible for the air pollution in Pasir Gudang.
In a statement on her Facebook, Yeo said that allegations against her family was an insult to the hundreds of civil servants from various agencies working hard to find out what is causing the pollution in Pasir Gudang.
“They are working tirelessly day and night to take parameter readers and analysing data to find out the cause of the incident.
“Their action of trying to politicise this incident is despicable and disgusting. They have no regard whatsoever for the feelings and trauma suffered by parents and children affected by the pollution.

“I will take legal action against those who are spreading this slander and abusing their rights to freedom of speech,” she said.
The image being circulated on the Internet is a montage of Yeo and her husband, Lee Yeow Seng, who is the CEO of IOI Properties group.
The text in the montage claims that Yeo’s husband owns three chemical plants in Pasir Gudang and asks: “Why is the government slow in taking action?”
Johor Umno had also posted the montage on their Facebook page.
Although it is true that Yeo’s husband is linked to three companies in Pasir Gudang; which are IOI Pan Century Oleochemical Sdn Bhd, IOI Lipid Enzymetec Sdn Bhd, IOI Pan Century Edible Oil Sdn Bhd—the companies deal with palm oil, not chemicals.
