KUALA LUMPUR: Present Chief Justice (CJ) Richard Malanjum is set to retire on Friday as he is put on forced retirement, reaching the constitutional maximum age to hold office at 66 years and 6 months.

Three names have been recommended by the Judicial Appointment Commission submitted as possible successor and one of them is female.

At present the Federal Court has the highest number of female judges with the Chief Judge of Malaya being Tan Sri Zaharah Ibrahim, the number three in the judicial hierarchy. She is, however set to retire in May.

The female judges in the list could possibly be one of the four Federal Court judges :- Datuk Alizatul Khair Othman Khairuddin, Datuk Rohana Yusof, Datuk Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Datuk P Nalini.

The male candidates vying for the top judiciary spot include Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Ahmad Ma’arop and Federal Court judge Tan Sri Idrus Harun.

Ahmad holds the second highest position after the chief justice.
