Waythamoorthy prepared for anything

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in Prime Minister’s Department in charge of national unity and social wellbeing P Waythamoorthy is prepared for any possibilities related to his ministerial post, amidst rumours of a cabinet reshuffle, since that comes under the prerogative of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“We must be prepared for all circumstances, and it is up to the Prime Minister,” Waytha said during the Colour of Unity’s children colouring programme in Melaka yesterday, adding he was unable to comment on the matter,” reported Malay daily, Berita Harian.
Waytha’s remarks come amid speculation that Dr Mahathir will reshuffle at least three portfolios, as well as the ministers involved.
According to rumours, aside from Waytha, two others who are speculated to be on the chopping board include Education Minister Maszlee Malik and Rural and Regional Development Minister Rina Harun.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng however squashed talks of a cabinet reshuffle and Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that there would a portfolio change.
Maszlee dismissed talks of reshuffling
Education Minister Maszlee Malik too dismissed talks that he is on the chopping board.
“Yesterday, I was with the prime minister; we did not discuss that […] what we discussed was about enhancing English language proficiency and Stem (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
“Every time we meet, he (prime minister) would ask to be updated on this,” he said after launching the University Student Volunteers Foundation (YSS) education project for the B40 group at the Lembah Subang 2 People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Selangor.
There have been speculation on the reestablishment of the Higher Education Ministry.
