UTM receives RM1 mln contribution from Johor Port

JOHOR BAHRU: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) yesterday received an RM1 million contribution from Johor Port Bhd to its Endowment Fund, to help underprivileged students at the university.
The contribution was handed over by Johor Port chief executive officer Md Derick Basir to UTM deputy vice-chancellor (research and innovation) Prof Datuk Ts Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail.
According to Ahmad Fauzi, Johor Port’s annual contribution of RM1 million through a memorandum of agreement signed in 2013 has indeed helped UTM in assisting students who need financial aid.
“The Johor Port’s contribution is very much needed, where (with the funds) students will be offered scholarships, free food programmes (are conducted) and a fixed contribution of RM1,000 a month is given for the preparation of dry food at the ‘Almari Kasih Sayang,“ he said after the handing over of the contribution here, yesterday.
Meanwhile, Md Derick said Johor Port believed that the contribution to the Endowment Fund would continue to benefit the youth, who will one day become the country’s leaders.
“We at Johor Port hope that this assistance and cooperation will not only benefit those in need, but also become a catalyst for other corporate bodies out there to help strengthen the development of our country’s education,“ he added. — Bernama
