Using art to feature centuries of Hajj pilgrimage
KUALA LUMPUR: My work is about raising awareness among the younger generation on how the Holy City of Makkah have transformed over centuries, said artist Reem Nazir.
Speaking to The Leaders Online, the famed painter said that her creative work was also about honouring those who had worked tirelessly to transform Makkah over the decades.
“It’s about educating our younger generation on how Makkah’s landscape has changed over centuries.
“I also want everyone to recognise the contribution made by our ancestors to the progress of our Holy Land. It’s my way of paying tribute to them,” she said.
Reem’s artworks, which consists of 44 paintings, are currently being displayed at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.
Themed “Hajj Journey Through the Ages’, the artworks also feature historical photographs and first-hand accounts from both ancient and modern times.

Elaborating on the matter, Reem’s husband, Tariq Ali Reza said that the idea of displaying his wife artworks across the globe came from his late friend, Syed Tajamud Hussein.
“It was Tajamud who came up with this idea. The first time he saw Reem’s artworks, he fell in love with it and realised its potential.
“He suggested that we should make a series out of it and exhibit it for everyone to see. Sadly, Tajamud breathed his last right before our first exhibition in Jeddah and Madinah,” said Tariq.
The exhibition started on Dec 13, 2019 and would end on March 13.
