Unemployed man nabbed over robbery attempt

KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man has been detained for allegedly attempting to rob a bank manager with a fake pistol at Kuchai Lama, here yesterday.

Brickfields district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said in the 10.30 pm incident, the victim was getting into her car at a parking lot after having dinner at a nearby restaurant when she was suddenly approached by the 47-year-old suspect.

He said the victim’s screams prompted the suspect to flee the scene but police nabbed him 15 minutes later.

“The suspect was detained at Jalan Kuchai Maju 8, Off Jalan Kuchai Lama, here and we also seized a fake pistol from him,” he said in a statement today.

Anuar said the suspect was taken to the Brickfields district police headquarters for further action adding that the case was being investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code and Section 36(1) of the Firearms Act 1960.

He said police have also recorded statements from three witnesses at the scene to facilitate investigation.

The victim did not suffer any injuries or financial loss in the incident, Anuar said.
