Umno claims has the numbers to form govt, meeting Agong later

PUCHONG: Umno secretary general Tan Sri Annuar Musa claims that his party has enough numbers to form a new government and would be having an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong later.

According to the Malay Mail Online, Annuar said that Umno had formed a pact with several other parties, together with ally PAS, to take over the government.

Malay daily Sinar Harian also quoted PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan earlier, claiming his team has secured the support of up to 129 MPs.

Speculation has been mounting that Umno, PAS, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Parti Warisan Sabah and Gabungan Parti Sarawak— have agreed to form a coalition.

The Pakatan Harapan government collapsed after a series on events, which saw Bersatu and former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, together with his 10 allies, leaving the ruling coalition.

Tun Dr Mahathir had also initially stepped down as prime minister but was cajoled back to become the interim premier as the behest of Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
