UK: Man shot dead by police after terrorism linked attack
LONDON: A man has been shot dead by police in South London after stabbing several people yesterday, Anadolu Agency quoted British police as saying in a statement.
“A man has been shot by armed officers in Streatham,” Metropolitan Police said on Twitter.
“At this stage, it is believed a number of people have been stabbed. The circumstances are being assessed; the incident has been declared as terrorist-related,” said the statement.
“We can confirm that the man shot by police at around 2pm [1400GMT] today in Streatham High Road has been pronounced dead,” a later post by Met said.
The London Ambulance Service also reported it had “a number of resources attending an incident in Streatham High Road.”
Local reports say two people have been stabbed during the incident.
“Thank you to all emergency services responding to the incident in Streatham, which the police have now declared as terrorism-related,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Twitter.
“My thoughts are with the injured and all those affected,” he said.
The terrorism threat level in the UK has been “substantial” since November 2019.
