Tommy Thomas must resign, Umno Youth chief demands

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dasuki demanded for the resignation of Attorney General Tommy Thomas during the Himpunan Pertahan Kedaulatan Islam (HPKI) this afternoon.

“Tommy Thomas must resign.He allowed the sultans to be insulted during the Rome Statute forum,” he told a crowd of 3000 odd people gathered near Sogo shopping complex.

“People want Islam and the special rights to be defended,” added the Umno leader.

The Rome Statute forum on 27 April that was attended also by Thomas saw some participants criticising the Malay Rulers.

He also denied that he was playing up racial and religious sentiments.

“Who is playing race and religious sentiments? Today is Firefighters Day. Today is the day we remember Adib,” he said in reference to Muhammad Adib who died during the clashes between two groups near a temple in Seafield.

“Where is the exco? Where is the minister who instigated the Indians? They should be arrested.”

PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man meanwhile confirmed that a memorandum will be sent to the government to address their concerns regarding threats against Islam and the Malay Rulers.

“Islam will be weakened if it is individualised,” he who is also Kubang Kerian MP added.

Recently a DAP senator suggested that the status of Islam for faith in the identification card be dropped.

“If Islam was not under threat, thousands of people won’t be here. We warn those working against Islam, we will not be silenced.

“Don’t touch the pillars of this nation,” he said in reference to Islam and the Malay Rulers.

“Don’t send Zakir Naik back. Stop liberalism and attempts to make Islam a personal issue,” he also said.

The Indian Muslim televangelist currently in Putrajaya obtained a permanent resident status.

He is facing money laundering and terrorism related charges in India.
