Tg Piai by-election: BN wants local candidate

JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) has made a resolution that only a local candidate will contest in the by-election for the Tanjung Piai parliamentary constituency.
State BN chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad who confirmed this said the resolution had already been informed to the component parties including the state Umno liaison body.
“I can confirm that we will have a local candidate,” he told reporters shortly after the conclusion of the special meeting of the party’s liaison body.
Hasni, who is also Johor Umno Liaison Body chairman, said this when asked on the criteria for the candidate who had been selected by Johor Umno to contest the by-election.
The reply given by Hasni straight away denied speculation that an outsider would stand for the BN in the by-election.
In another development, Hasni said that the meeting had also unanimously nominated Sembrong Umno division chief, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein as the new Umno secretary general.
