Tekun Nasional appoints four Shariah Committee members

KUALA LUMPUR: TEKUN Nasional has appointed four Shariah Committee members for a two-year term from Feb 15, 2021 to Feb 14, 2023, according to Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said the new committee is headed by Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad general manager (Strategic Relations) Mohd Nazri Chik, as chairman, and who is also BIMB Holdings Berhad group chief shariah officer.

Other members are Assoc Prof Dr Azman Mohd Noor from Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM); Assoc Prof Dr Kamaruzaman Noordin from Department of Shariah and Management, Academy of Islamic Studies at University Malaya (UM); and Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) religious administration officer Syed Abdullah Syed Nordin.

Wan Junaidi in a statement said the shariah committee will serve as an advisor and reference expert in matters related to shariah compliance and governance in TEKUN Nasional.

He said the appointment of the shariah committee members is to ensure credence of TEKUN Nasional Shariah governance.

“The newly appointed members are known figures who have integrity, are committed and respected at various levels. They have vast experience and are experts in Islamic law and Islamic Financing,” he said.

TEKUN has been offering shariah-compliant financing, adopting the concept of Qardul Hasan since 2006. In 2016, it introduced a new shariah-compliant concept, Tawarruq for its TEKUN Niaga Financing Scheme.

TEKUN Nasional also received shariah-compliant certification from shariah-compliant financing consultant, Syariah Centre of Excellence Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad in 2017, and all TEKUN financing products are now fully shariah-compliant.
