Tawau Immigration Department detains 45 Filipino illegal immigrants
TAWAU: A woman who was begging at Jalan Persisiran Highway here with her baby was among 45 illegal immigrants who were detained by the Tawau Immigration Department here yesterday.
In the incident at 12.30 pm, the woman, in her 30s, who was holding a three-month-old baby, tried to escape to sea after she detected the presence of the authorities conducting the Ops Sapu in the area.
Tawau Immigration assistant director Abdul Samat Wahab said in the ops, 45 Filipinos comprising an adult male, 19 women, 13 boys and 13 girls, all aged between three months and 89 years, were detained.
“They were detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act Imigresen 1959/63.
“They are all now being held at the temporary detention centre here for further action,” he said.
