Syed Saddiq: I was not there in the drug-fuelled party!

PUCHONG: Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman denied claims that he was one of the attendees of a drug-fuelled party raided by the police on Jan 12.

In a statement today, Syed Saddiq also said he would lodge a police report over the malicious lie made by Johor Press.

“I would like to point out that the contents of the article, published by Johor Press, are completely false.

“The article, which went viral on the Internet, has tarnished my image as a minister,” he said.

On Jan 17, Johor Press alleged that Syed Saddiq was also present at the drug-fuelled party held at a condominium in Puchong.

It further claimed that the minister got lucky as he left the place before the police arrived.

On the same day, People’s Wellbeing & Rights Organisation (Power) lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), urging the latter to investigate allegations that a minister was present at the party.

The NGO said that a witness had seen the presence of a Toyota Alphard MPV at the condominium, which carried the emblem ‘Menteri’.

During the raid, Selangor PPBM youth chief Adhif Syan Abdullah and the wing’s national assistant secretary, Ahmad Redzuan Mohamed Shafi, were reported to be among 17 people arrested.

The duo had been suspended from the party pending police probe.

On related matter, Syed Saddiq also denied allegations that his ministry has succumbed to companies lobbying for projects, saying his team maintained the highest level of integrity when  dishing out projects.

He added that his ministry’s ranking has dropped to number 16, in terms of risks engaging in corruption and abuse of power.

“The Youth and Sports Ministry’s position in the Public Service Corruption Ranking has improved. Before I took over, my ministry was among eight ministries reported to be susceptible to corruption,” said the Muar MP.
