Students protesting against Najib manhandled by supporters

KUALA LUMPUR: Students protesting against former prime minister Najib Razak who held his meet and greet session at Restoran Amjal near Universiti Malaya after Friday prayers were manhandled by Najib supporters this afternoon.
They were shouting while carrying a cardboard caricature of a clown-faced Najib and posters printed with the words “Mana RM2.6bil?” (Where’s the RM2.6 billion).
There were also placards held up that read: “Arrest Najib”, “Najib is shameless”, “Return the people’s money”.
This led to a commotion between the students and supporters.
Najib’s supporters were upset at the oversized clown-face caricature which prompted them to confront the group of students on the pavement, and Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam proceeded to tear up the cardboard caricature.
Another Najib supporter grabbed the student by his neck in a reverse chokehold and tried to pull him over the railing separating the pavement and road.
However, other supporters, including Lokman, intervened and stopped him. He subsequently defended the action of Najib’s supporters.
“I don’t care if they want to protest, but when they use the picture of Najib, that is our boss. It is our right to take that picture to tear it up,” he said.
In a related development Najib denied allegations that he would be giving a talk at Masjid Ar – Rahman which is a stone throw away from the restaurant following the emergence of a poster that claimed Najib would be doing so.
“I’m not sure who produced the graphic (poster) claiming that I would be giving a talk at the mosque,” he said in a Facebook post.
Najib said he did plan to perform his Friday prayers at the mosque but denied there would be a talk.
“All this while, we have never given a ceramah or talk in a mosque as we respect the house of Allah and do not want them to be misused,” he added.
