Spartan Race returns to Sarawak next year

KUCHING: Spartan Race, which made its debut in Sarawak last month, will return to the state twice next year.

State Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the races are scheduled to be held at the Sarawak Leadership Institute in Jalan Semengoh here on April 4 to 5 and at Sarawak Stadium on October 3 next year.

“A total of 7,000 local and foreign participants are expected to join the two races next year which is also Visit Malaysia Year 2020,” he said in a media conference here today.

Abdul Karim said the race on April 4 and 5 next year, dubbed as Spartan Race Sarawak 2020 Southeast Asia (SEA) Super Regional Series is expected to draw 4,000 participants.

Among the categories which will be competed are ‘Spartan Trial’ over 10 kilometres (km) and 21 km without obstacles in the jungle; ‘Spartan Sprint’ (5 km), ‘Spartan Super’ (10 km) and Spartan Kids for children aged four to 13 with mini obstacles according to age (1 km and 2 km).

Meanwhile the second Spartan Race Sarawak 2020 which will be held in conjunction with the National Sports Month at Sarawak Stadium on October 3 next year is expected to see 3,000 participants.
