Singapore President Tharman concludes three-day state visit to Malaysia
SEPANG, July 15 — Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam departed Malaysia today after concluding a three-day state visit to the country.
Tharman, his spouse Jane Ittogi, and delegation departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on a commercial flight bound for Singapore at 2.20 pm.
Earlier, upon arriving at the Bunga Raya Complex, KLIA, at 1.45 pm, the President was accorded a static Guard of Honour mounted by two officers and 26 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment, led by Capt Muhammad Hanafi Ja’afar.
Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Steven Sim was present to bid farewell to Tharman and his delegation.
Tharman began his visit on Sunday at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
The visit reciprocated Sultan Ibrahim’s state visit to Singapore on May 6 and 7, 2024, and reflects the close and longstanding bilateral ties between the two neighbouring countries.
This was Tharman’s first state visit to Malaysia since assuming office as the ninth President of Singapore on Sept 14, 2023.
On Monday, Tharman was accorded a state welcoming ceremony, followed by an audience with Sultan Ibrahim at Istana Negara.
He also received a courtesy call from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which was also attended by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Sim.
Yesterday, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah granted an audience to Tharman at Istana Alam Shah
