Singapore men fined for ‘gangster’ taunts at cop near Kitchener Road murder scene

SINGAPORE, Oct 29 — Three men have been fined for taunting and hurling insults at a police officer who stopped them from entering a cordoned-off murder scene near Kitchener Road.

According to a report by Asia One, the incident took place on September 22 around 5am, when the trio — Alex Kumar Gnanasekaran, 38, Md Dino Marciano Abdul Wahab, 45, and Mohamed Eusof Mohamed Yahiya, 33 — came across a police cordon while walking along the back lane of Sam Leong Road after a night of drinking.

All three men pleaded guilty to using insulting words towards a public servant. Alex was fined S$4,000 (RM12,900), while Dino and Eusof were each fined S$5,000.

The court heard that the men ignored police instructions to stay away from the area and began mocking the officer who refused to let them through.

Alex shouted vulgarities and said, “We are paying tax” and “I can show you 100 per cent gangster.”

Dino repeatedly mocked the officer, while Eusof pointed at him and said, “He is going to cry already.”

The confrontation, which lasted about three minutes, was recorded by a fourth man, Mohanan V. Balakrishnan, 39, who was fined S$3,500 in September for his role.

Deputy public prosecutor Tan Jun Ya said the men’s actions obstructed police officers from maintaining security and showed disregard for the law.

District Judge Lim Tse Haw noted Dino and Eusof’s previous offences against public servants, while acknowledging that Alex had taken steps to seek counselling and make positive changes.

Those convicted of using abusive language against a public servant can face up to a year in jail, a fine of up to S$5,000, or both.
