Sexual assault on schoolgirl: Police wrapped up probe, forward details to DPP

SEREMBAN: The police have completed their investigation into the sexual assault case involving a 12-year old girl by a 65-year old lorry driver.

Negeri Sembilan state CID chief Wan Rukman Wan Hassan said that the police will forward their investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor’s office for further action.

“The suspect’s remand order has been extended to July 22,” he said.

It is learnt that the suspect, who recorded his lewd act on his mobile phone, may be charged in court on Thursday.

Asked if police had found any other recordings involving the girl or other victims in the two mobile phones belonging to the suspect, Wan Rukman replied in the negative.

“So far, there is only this recording, which went viral,” he told reporters.

The police detained the senior citizen last Tuesday while he was driving a lorry along the North South Expressway near Gopeng.

His arrest came following the victim’s mother police report after learning about the viral video clip involving the suspect and the victim.

The case is being investigated under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon sentencing.
