Sexual assault on schoolgirl: Let us do our job, police tells angry public

PUCHONG: The police have urged the public not to disturb the 12-year old sexual abuse victim and her family, or even the suspect’s family to allow the authorities to conduct their investigation professionally.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Negeri Sembilan CID chief ACP Rukman Wan Hassan also urged the public not to take the law into their own hands, adding that the police have arrested the 65-year old suspect, Subramaniam Veloo.

“We have also confiscated a Proton Waja and two of the suspect’s handphone which was believed to have been used to record the sexual abuse against the underaged Indian girl,” he said.

Recently, the video recording of Subramaniam sexually abusing the child went viral over the social media, triggering public outcry.

Two days ago, the victim’s mother lodged a police report against Subramaniam after getting to know what happened.

Commenting on the matter, Rukman said Subramaniam had outraged the girl’s modesty three times in June.

“Subramaniam coaxed the girl by saying he will buy her gifts such as stationery and food. All these happened when the girl’s parents were not around,” said Rukman, adding that the victim and the suspect lived in the same residential area.

The case is being investigated under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

On related matter, incensed netizens gathered outside Subramaniam’s house in Seremban last night.

However, no untoward incident happened.
