Seven-day remand for lorry driver in viral sex video

SEREMBAN: The police have obtained a seven-day remand extension for the 65-year-old lorry driver arrested last Tuesday for the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old schoolgirl.
A remand order was originally obtained last Wednesday when the suspect was brought to Seremban after being arrested while driving along the North-South Expressway near Gopeng.
The police arrested the suspect after the victim’s mother lodged a report around 3pm on July 9 upon being told of a viral video clip showing the suspect sexually assaulting the victim.
In the video, the victim is seen being forced to perform sexual acts on the man in the back seat of a car.
Last week, state CID chief ACP Wan Rukman Wan Hassan said based on a preliminary probe, they found the suspect had taken the girl out on three occasions.
The police also seized the man’s two mobile phones and his car to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
If found guilty, the man could face a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.
