RPK: Why cry discrimination when 90% of wealth owned by non-Malays?

PUCHONG: Pro-Barisan Nasional blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin stirred the hornet’s nest by criticising the non-Malays for saying that the Malaysian government was discriminating the minorities in the country.

“Why are the non-Malays screaming about racial discrimination in Malaysia when they control 90% of the wealth and 9 out of 10 billionaires are non-Malays?

“You want to see discrimination then go see what is happening to Muslims in China,” he said, via Twitter today.

The blogger’s statement received mixed reactions from his followers, with some backing it and many others criticising the Selangor royalty.

“They r screaming coz they r the TAMAK people. TAK PUAS2! They r the DESCENDANTS of FIRAUN LAKNATULLAH!” said user Jay Muara.

Another user named Indera directly accused the non-Malays of being ungrateful to Malaysia.

“Because they are being ungrateful and greedy,” he said.

Another user named Palohotokmung said, “Bro, they want 100% wealth control la.. Mcm tak kenal (like they don’t know).”

However, other users have hit out at Raja Petra saying that just because the well-connected non-Malays are rich, it did not mean there was no discrimination in the country.

“Non-Malays are successful despite the blatant discrimination by the supposedly Islamic and fair Malays. It doesn’t negate the fact that the discrimination is still there and that many poor non-bumis are suffering as a result,” said user Scotty P.

Another user named Adrian Chandran told the seasoned blogger, “This is Malaysia, I am a Malaysian, so I have the right to share my point of view about discrimination here, just as you have the right (unfortunately) to say the words you choose to say, even though they are factually inaccurate and racially-charged. Stop stoking the fire, dude.”

Another user Calvin Saw urged Raja Petra to do some soul-searching and questioned Malay leaders on why the community is still lagging behind despite years of affirmative policies in place.

“First of all, you shall ask why we have special privileges and it still happening today? There are Malay elites in the community but why the wealth gap is widening and what are we going to do about it?’’ he asked.

Raja Petra’s controversial tweet received 268 retweets and 645 likes of press time.
