Rough seas: Kelantan MMEA advises postponement of all coastal activities
PASIR PUTEH: Kelantan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has advised all activities at sea and along the beach in the state to be postponed in view of the current rough sea condition.
Its director Capt Muhd Nur Syam Asmawie Yaacob in a statement here yesterday said based on the surveillance conducted around the Exclusive Economic Zone, waves have reached up to five metres.
He said the MMEA was always ready to provide assistance, and people with emergencies could contact the Eastern Region Maritime Operations Centre’s 24-hour hotline at 09-5717345 or the Malaysian Emergency Response Services (MERS) at 999.
Nur Syam commented on the weather warning issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department stated that strong northeasterly winds of 50-60 kilometre per hour with waves up to 4.5 metres are expected in waters off Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Eastern Johor until later yesterday.
