Returning Rantau rep, Mohamad Hasan attributes win to Pakatan Harapan

RANTAU POLLS RANTAU: Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan who clinched the Rantau state seat attributed his win to his political rival Pakatan Harapan as the people were getting restless with the growing lethargy on PH’s unkept promises and constant criticism of Barisan Nasional’s past misdeeds.
“They want to see concrete action taken when there is political and economic instability, and they are tired of hearing the same old reason of putting the blame on Barisan Nasional (BN),” he said at a press conference after being announced as winner of the Rantau by-election, here today.
He also said it was clear that the youth votes, which would usually go to PH, are returning to BN.
“This shows that the youth votes are dynamic and not static. They are sensitive to the political developments in the country and they may be fascinated by all of PH’s promises, but none of them are fulfilled.”
“They have shown their referendum through the ballot box,” he added.
Mohamad garnered 10,397 votes against Streram’s 5,887 votes with a majority of 4,510 votes. Both independents lost their deposits after gaining less than one eighth of the total votes. Malarvizhi received 83 votes and Nor, 79.
PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim meanwhile viewed the defeat as a reminder for PH to focus on people’s plight.
“The defeat is a reminder to PH leaders to continue giving appropriate attention to the people’s concerns about the economy and cost of living.”
Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is currently on garden leave meanwhile viewed the view the Mohamad’s victory as an indicator that the people have began to realise their mistake.
“The victory of Mohamad Hasan is in Rantau is a message from voters who felt that they wrongly voted for PH that was supported by mistake in the general election,” he said on Instagram.
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang meanwhile congratulated his party machinery that assisted Mohamad Hasan.
“I congratulate the machinery of PAS and PAS supporters’ wing for assisting (BN) in the Rantau by-election, including PAS members who voted today,” he said in a statement.
